Hello! I’m Sandy.  I am currently doing an MA in English Renaissance and 18th Century Literature in the University of Liverpool.  I received my BA in Tunghai University, Taichung, Taiwan.  Before that, I attended an international school and was there from third grade till the end of high school.  I worked as an English teacher for five years before finally making it here to the UK.

I chose to come to the University of Liverpool because I believe they offered precisely the programme that I was interested in.  This is the first year that they are offering this programme, and we are doing a lot of innovative explorations in the two areas of literature that are replete with adventures and experiments themselves.  Moreover, the city itself also contributed to my choosing of the university.  I believe from what I have heard and read that it is a city that I would definitely fall in love with because of its culture and perfect size – not too big and not too small.

Before coming to the UK, I had anticipated being in the library or in my room most of the time reading and writing or busy doing some other course work.  I didn’t think there would be enough time and energy for me to enjoy the city, the country, nor cultivate new friendships with the lovely people here.  Once the course commenced, I realised that if you manage your time well, there is no reason why you should bury yourself in readings or other coursework all the time instead of stepping out into the world and enjoy your very limited time here in the UK.

Studying in the UK can be very different from what we are used to in Taiwan.  The postgraduate programmes require a lot more independent work than undergraduate courses.  The professors appreciate insights from students, so don’t be afraid to speak up when you feel the urge to do so.  Also, don’t feel intimidated by all the Englishness around you.  Be bold! Make new friends and embrace all the amazing potentials that will make your time in the UK unique to you.

If you like a bit of fun and excitement but at the same time appreciate a peaceful and quiet environment to live and work in, Liverpool is the perfect city for you.  The University of Liverpool is highly reputed for its excellence and quality of teaching and research.  Best of all, Liverpool is also UK’s second most cost-effective student city!  My Liverpool experience has been amazing so far.  And I am certain that it is only going to get better and better!

I『Interview with Sandy who is currently studying at the University of Liverpool.』
