一、校園環境相關問答。
Concerning campus life.

1. 校園的環境如何呢？
What is the campus like?

利物浦的校區非常集中。如果您是選擇住校，那麼無論您就讀的是什麼科系，都是步行幾分鐘內就可抵達的距離範圍內。也因為校區集中，因此讓環境更單純及安全。

The university campus is concentrated within a specific range.  If you live in the halls, all the department buildings are within a walkable distance of a few minutes.  Because the compus buildings are so near each other, it helps create a safer atmosphere.

2. 我如何選擇要申請哪一個宿舍呢？
How do I choose which hall to live in?

其實不同宿舍的設施及環境大同小異。基本上建議您使用校方網站上提供的Easy Comparison Chart稍微做比較。另外再觀賞網站上提供的影片及照片，再選出最適合自己的宿舍。只要您在校方規定的期限內提出申請並給付訂金，一定會申請的到。但因為申請人數非常的多，即使您填上了喜好順序，不一定會申請到您得頭號選擇。

There are no significant differences between the halls and the facilities that the halls provide.  It is recommended that you use the Easy Comparison Chart and look at the pictures and videos provided on the accommodation website to help you decide which one to choose.  If you send off an application before a certain date, and pay your deposit, then a room will be reserved for you.  However, because the applicants for halls are voluminous, it must be remembered that you might not be assigned to the first choice that you picked.

3. 宿舍的環境如何呢？
What are the halls like?

宿舍的環境相當的安全也相當的單純。由於位於市中心邊緣，生活機能佳但卻不會吵鬧。在校區內的三種宿舍區，也都離各科系院相當的近。無論是上下課、購買日常生活用品、或是課外娛樂都是相當的便利。

The environment of the halls is extremely safe.  It is located at the edge of the city centre, which means that everything you need is within a walkable distance.  The location also guarantees a quiet environment, perfect for students.  All three on-campus halls are located very close to the different departments.  Whether you're concerned with commuting to class, purchasing daily needs, or entertainment, they are all within a reasonable distance to the halls.

4. 學校有很多台灣人嗎？
Are there a lot of people from Taiwan on campus?

每年入學的台灣同學人數不一。大致上每年會有二十到三十位台灣同學來利物浦大學就讀。

It varies from year to year.  In general, approximately twenty to thirty students come to study at our university every year.

5. 跟當地的英國人交友會不會很難？
Is it difficult to make friends with the locals?

如果將自己的態度調適好，其實與英國當地的朋友，一點也不難。所謂的態度調適，是指對自己的英文程度的自信心。基本上，只要自己願意踏出第一步，大膽去嘗試與他們交流，他們都會很樂意的與國際學生來往的。因為許多當地的英國人對於亞洲的文化也不是太了解。建議可以在自己攝取當地生活經驗時也可趁此機會將自己的文化也介紹給英國當地的朋友。

It all depends on your attitude.  It is not difficult at all to make friends with English people.  What is meant by attitude, is the confidence in your English ability.  Be bold and take the first step.  Once you do that, they will be more than happy to continue interacting with you.  Many of them do not know much about Asian culture, and while you are gaining experience yourself, why not take the opportunity and introduce your own culture to the English!

二、市區環境相關問答。
Concerning city life.

1. 利物浦這個城市的環境如何呢？
What's the city like in general?

利物浦是一個充滿文化性質的城市。以一個不大不小的城市來說，他所提供的文藝活動可說是相當的豐富。另外，利物浦的居民也是相當的熱情。一個融入許多文化在其中的城市，會讓來自不同文化的國際學生都覺得非常有親切感。

Liverpool is a city full of culture.  For a city that is not too big, and not too small, the amount of cultural activities offered is more than abundant.  Also, the people in Liverpool are extremely friendly and passionate.  For a city that is capable of merging different cultures into one, it helps to make international students from all around the world feel welcome.

2. 交通便利嗎？
What's the transportation system like?

日常生活中會需要到達的地點，以及市區內的觀光勝地，幾乎都是步行就可以抵達的。若是有必要的話，公車也是相當的頻繁。若是要到英國其他地區，無論是coach站、火車站、或是機場，都是輕鬆可以抵達的。其中coach站以及火車站就位於市中心。

The places that you need to go on a regular basis are all within walkable distances.  That includes the major tourist attractions in the city centre.  If you need to, the buses also run quite frequently.  As for traveling to other parts of the UK, the coach station and the train station are both in the city centre.  The airport is also easy to get to on the bus or taxi.

3. 市區有很多中國餐廳嗎？
Are there a lot of Chinese restaurants around?

利物浦的中國城是歐洲年代最久的一個。因此，利物浦的中國餐廳相當的多。如果懷念家鄉味，市區有非常多的各式各樣的餐廳可以挑選。

The China Town in Liverpool is one of the oldest in Europe.  Because of this, there are a lot of Chinese restaurants.  Whenever you want a taste of home, simply choose one from all the different varieties of restaurants the city has to offer.

4. 當地的人友善嗎？
What are the people in Liverpool like?

利物浦的人相當的友善。他們對於外來人也相當的熱情。如果有任何需要協助的地方，可以大方的請求他們幫忙。他們會非常樂於助人的。

The people in Liverpool are extremely friendly.  They are also very passionate towards people coming from other places.  If you ever need help, simply ask, and they will be more than happy to help you.

5. 當地的口音會不會很難懂呢？
Is Scouse accent difficult to understand?

利物浦有獨特的Scouse口音。若是不習慣，可能需要一段適應期。不過不用太擔心。因為利物浦是一個學生城市。所以許多你會接觸到的同學以及教授等，都會來自英國其他地區比較多。而遇到會說Scouse的機會，可能就是在商店買東西的時候，或是有遇到來自利物浦的同學才會聽到。

Scouse accent can be quite difficult to understand at first.  It does take a little time to get used to.  However, because Liverpool is a student city, which means that most of the people you will meet in your department, from coursemates to professors, are probably from elsewhere in the UK and do not speak with a Scouse accent.  You are more likely to meet someone who speaks with a strong Scouse accent when you buy your daily necessities or if you have a friend who is a local Liverpudlian.

6. 當地的消費情形如何呢？
What is the expenditure like in Liverpool?

利物浦是英國學生城市花費第二低的城市。因為學生人口較多，所以許多商店販售的價格都比較低。另外許多商店也會針對學生打折扣。

Liverpool is the second most cost efficient student city in the UK.  Because of the high ratio of student population, many shops and stores sell items at a lower cost.  Also, many shops offer discounts to students as well.

7. 天氣會不會很差？
What's the weather like?

利物浦的天氣跟其他英國城市比起來算是比較溫和的。下雨都下不久。溼氣不會太高，也不會太乾燥。冬天也不會太冷。

The weather in Liverpool is a lot milder than many other cities in the UK.  It never rains for too long.  It doesn't get too humid, nor does it get too dry.  The winter doesn't get too intolerable either.

三、其他生活相關問答。
Concerning living issues in general.

1. 我需要帶些什麼東西呢？
What do I need to bring with me?

我個人會建議隨身行李中準備一件厚外套。其他冬天大衣可以用海運或空運的方式寄送。因為到了八九月，天氣會漸漸轉涼。若是從嚴熱仲夏的台灣突然來到涼爽的利物浦，會開始有冷的感覺。另外筆記型電腦也是留學生必備品。至於影印機的話，學校圖書館是相當方面的資源。所以這點可以不用煩惱。若是想要帶手機過來使用也行，但請記得確認與英國的系統相合。至於電壓，一般電腦以及手機都有國際電流。但還是需要自行準備英國的轉換插頭。

I would recommend that you bring with you a jacket when you arrive.  Other winter coats can be shipped over.  Because once August and September comes around, the weather will cool down significantly.  For those of us who are coming from a mid-summer temperature in Taiwan, we will find the weather here rather chilly.  A laptop computer is also a must.  There is no need to worry about printers, as the library is quite equipted with printers.  If you would like to bring your mobile phone over, you can, but please make sure before you bring it with you that the systems are compatible.  For mobile phone chargers and laptop power plugs, usually no adapter is needed.  However, you will need a special switch plug.

2. 有沒有必要帶電鍋？
Do I need to bring a rice cooker?

電鍋不是『必須』帶的物品。但是有許多朋友會選擇帶電鍋的原因是因為煮飯烹調是真的會比較方便也比較節省。

It is not an absolute 'must', but there are many people who choose to bring it due to convenience and money saving factors.

3. 要怎麼申請銀行帳戶呢？
How do I apply for a bank account?

在英國申請學生帳號非常的簡單。只要你在註冊後，到學校跟他們要求一封要給銀行的在學證明，到了銀行，準備好這封信，以及自己的護照即可申請學生帳號。

It is extremely easy to open a student account in a bank here in the UK.  All you need to do is ask for a letter from the university, once you have registered, to tell the bank that you are currently a student at the university, bring your passport over, and you are ready to open a student account.

4. 要怎麼把錢帶過去呢？
How do I bring my money to the UK?

有兩種方式可能是最方便也最簡單的。一種是到了英國之後，等開戶手續完成，在請家人從台灣將準備好的費用匯到英國的帳戶中。另外一種就是在出國前買好匯票，直接帶匯票過來，等開好戶以後，用匯票的方式存進自己的帳戶中。兩者的手續費其實都差不多。不過無論使用哪種方式，身邊都記得準備一點急用現金以防萬一。

There are two ways that might be the easiest and most convenient way to bring money over to the UK.  The first method is to wait until you have opened up an account here, then ask a family memeber to transfer the money you have prepared to your new account.  The other method is to buy bank drafts.  Bring the draft over, and give it to the bank when you open your account so they can save that amount into your account.  The two fees come down to pretty much the same.  No matter which method you choose to use, remember to prepare enough cash on you, just in case.
