Generally speaking, I have a rather petite appetite. However, when confronted with heavenly cuisine, or my favourite food, I will still devour everything set before my eyes. After adopting a vegetarian diet, there are a lot of cuisines that I do miss. Like these Shanghai style 'dim sums', which are more commonly found with pork stuffing, are among those that I really miss. Although it is not impossible to find restaurants that do make them, often, I find the taste disgusting and inedible... I guess this explains why there are so many people out there who actually 'despise' dining at vegetarian restaurants.
The place we came to today, however, will absolutely blow your mind away. It is tucked away in a narrow alley. You may find it difficult to get yourself to give it a try if you had no idea what you would be missing out on if you just walk away. Their veggie buns and other cuisines are absolutely heavenly!
天仙雖然平時食量小,不過遇到好吃或是愛吃的東西,食慾還是會大開。自從吃素以後,其實有很多食物天仙還是會想念。雖然說像這種點心類的食品,做成素食的也不是沒有,不過比較難找到是真的。而且讓天仙最困擾的地方就是這一類的素食,其實都會有很多『地雷』。意思就是說,遇到難吃的機率會比遇到好吃或是尚可、嚥的下去的機率還要高很多!我想這可能也是為什麼很多人會對於『素食』有反感的原因吧。
不過這天跟朋友來到這間店面小到不行,簡直就跟一般夜市或菜市場攤販沒什麼兩樣的小吃店,他們所供應的素食點心類,卻是讓天仙至今都很難以忘懷呀。
素捲餅 Veggie roll
Usually, when I see 'mock meat' in my food, I would automatically categorize it as 'inedible' or 'disgusting food'. I decided to give this a try, and I am glad that I did. You will barely taste the 'mock meat' because the veggie and the savoury sauce is all you can taste. For a veggie, I won't be surprised if you find it delicious, too. However, the real challenge is to get a non-veg to also agree that this is absolutely delicious!
一般看到這種有放『素肉』的食品,不用先嘗過,一定都會先將他歸類為『地雷品』。不過這個捲餅還不錯吃。裡面雖然有放素肉,但是捲餅餅皮的口感以及醬汁的味道足以蓋過素肉的味道。不過對習慣吃素的人來說或許算是好吃。如果吃葷的人也覺得不錯的話,那可能才算是真的成功?!
雙黃麵 Shanghai Style chow mein
I always had a craving for chow mein. When I saw a picture of the dish posted on the wall, I knew I had to give it a try. The owner of the shop came round and informed us on how to eat the dish. First, you stir the noodles so that the soup will evenly soak all the noodles. Once we've had a bite, we realised why that crucial step was needed.
因為看到店內張貼的照片,平時又對炒麵類的食物非常感興趣,因此經不了誘惑也點了這一大盤麵來吃。老闆說要先拌開。這樣麵的口感才會好吃。果然,麵的嚼勁超Q!味道也是很美味。(詞窮...)
湯包 Soupy bun (my invention... )
If you had seen the way the owner came round telling us how this dish should be eaten, you would understand that this is their special dish. He was so afraid that our ignorance would ruin the flavour of the bun, that he repeated asked us to get some soy sauce and ginger to go with them, and have them while they are still steaming hot. Yes, it was absolutely amazing. The soup that slowly seeps out once you've had a bite, is so sweet and savoury. However, do be careful as to not burn your tongue while having these.
這個就不得了了。根據老闆對於我們食用方式的意見就可以猜出這一定是他們的招牌菜。老闆很怕我們用錯方法食用,導致影響到口感。他們建議在碟子裡裝點醬油以及薑絲,趁熱沾著吃。不過因為天仙比較愛吃醋(無誤),所以天仙沒有依照老闆建議的方式食用。不過趁熱這點是真的有聽啦。果然!這湯包真的不是蓋的。湯汁好甘甜。不過雖然要趁熱,還是要小心別燙到舌頭了。不然就無法繼續享受其他的美味餐點囉!
小籠包 Veggie buns
No soup will seep out from these buns, but they are still amazing. Not many places sell veggie buns like these, and not to mention, even less sell veggie buns that actually taste superb. You must not underestimate these ordinary buns. Once they've been set on the table, you're in for a real big surprise!
雖然威力比較龐大的湯包已經寫在前面了,就顯得小籠包的威力比較弱許多。不過別忘了前面有提到,賣這種素小籠包的不多。做的好吃的又更少!所以千萬別小看這小籠包!因為他表裡都很扎實。料多實在。甘甜又美味呀!!

聽說湯包是利用冷凍的高湯包進薄薄的麵皮裡 因為動物的油脂冷凍就是固體的~~ 不知道素湯包是怎麼做的? 裡面包什麼啊?
