After a crazy night out last Friday, this weekend, I will show you one of the favourite places of all times among me and my friends. The reason why we enjoy this pub so much, other than the fact that it's on campus so convenient for after-tutorial drinks, is because of its atmosphere. Unlike other pubs, this pub always has its telly on mute. Although you can't exactly watch football matches here, it is the best place to come if your intention of coming here is to have a good chat with your best mates. 
上週五介紹了比較瘋狂的慶祝小周末方式，這周來點比較安靜的。這裡是我與朋友們最喜歡的地方之一。除了因為他就在校園裡面（方便下課後小酌）另外也是因為他的氣氛。有別於其他間pub，這間的電視永遠都是關靜音。所以當然也就不能在這裡觀看球賽。不過如果你的目的是來這裡與朋友談天說地，真的沒有比這裡更適合的地方了！
Pub culture is very different from the drinking culture in Taiwan. For instance, it's absolutely normal to see your professors here on a Friday afternoon. In fact, if I have trouble tracking down my dissertation supervisor, I can always try the Cambridge. 
英國的pub文化跟台灣的喝酒文化大大不同。最好的例子就是說，這裡不只是提供學生小酌的地方，教授們也會來。更有趣的是，當時還在念書時，如果找不到我的指導老師，我還可以試試看來這裡堵他。
Another special thing about the Cambridge, is its Pub Quizzes on Sunday evenings. Although there is a very big cultural gap, and I only knew answers to very few trivial questions, I still enjoyed the few instances when I was the only one that knew the answer to certain questions. And unlike the quizzes in other pubs, they give out free chips and there is also around of bingo in between the first half of the quizzes and the second half. Pub quizzes are only held during term dates though. 
另外一個特色就是這裡的pub quiz。Pub quiz是一種在pub玩的機智問答遊戲，問的僅是一些無關緊要的冷知識。（最後贏的那組會有獎品）雖然有很大的文化代溝，可是少數有只有我知道答案的時候，那種感覺超棒的啦！不同於其他間舉辦的pub quiz，中場休息時不只是會外加一場bingo遊戲，還會發送免費的薯條請大家吃。其實我很多朋友不喜歡pub quiz的有時都會為了免費薯條而來。不過在開學期間才會有定期的pub quiz喔！

【娛樂】Pub Quiz at the Cambridge
Prices are reasonable and the bartenders here are very friendly. 
這裡價格合理，員工也都很親切。
It's easy to turn one drink after another. But that's only because we enjoy each other too much. 
很容易一杯接著一杯喝。不過這也只是因為我們太享受彼此的陪伴了。
It's not a big place, so it tends to get very crowded at times. But the chatting and the laghter that the crowd produces can only compound to your own enjoyment of your presence there. 
因為地方不大，所以很容易擁擠（人潮一多）。不過這裡的談話聲以及笑聲只會讓你更enjoy你在這邊的時光！
Nothing has changed - even the lock in the ladies' remained the same after an entire year.... 
這裡沒有任何改變，就連一年前壞掉的女廁門鎖... 一年後還是原來的樣子 XD

喝酒請理性．理性請飲酒（咦？）
So! I hope you're all ready for the weekend! Because here comes the most 'appropriate' article to post on a Friday! Liverpool is one of the best places to pub crawl! Because most of the pubs you'll want to visit are within walking distance. So here's a demonstration of how it's done. 
大家準備好要來個瘋狂的週末了嗎？這篇文章實在是太適合今天貼出了！所謂的pub crawl呢，就是一整晚從第一間pub換到第二間，第三間，第四間..... 這篇文章就是要來給大家示範一下到底pub crawl是怎麼玩的！利物浦是個很適合pub crawl的城市。因為所有你需要去的pub都是走路就可以到的（省下很多計程車錢）。
This was our first stop after dinner. Hannah's is one the favourite places, and at some time during the night, we often make a stop here. 
這晚我們晚餐過後的第一站是Hannah's。這間是我與友人們最喜歡的地方之一。所以只要出來，我們通常會在這裡待一下。
On a good weather day during the summer, they'll remove that glass roof top. Quite fancy. 
夏天天氣不錯的時候，他們會把玻璃屋頂打開～
Hannah's has a good atmosphere. The music doesn't get too loud, unless there is a live performance. So you can enjoy chatting with your friends over a drink. It's not the ideal place to watch football matches, though. There are two reasons for this: drinks are a little bit more pricey than others, and seats aren't always the easiest to get. 
這裡的氣氛不錯。而且除非有現場表演，音樂其實不會太大聲。所以很適合朋友小聚聊天。不過這裡卻不太適合看球賽：因為跟其他地方比起來，這裡是貴了點，而且位子也不適挺好等的... 
Our next stop was Heebie Jeebies. I told my friend that I had not been here during my year here, and they kindly accompanied me here. It was a nice place, and we really enjoyed our time... until we caught some people doing something we weren't suppose to notice... 
我們下一站是Heebie Jeebies。常聽朋友們提起，可是每次我都剛好沒跟到。友人聽我這麼一說，就很熱心地陪伴我來這裡。因為此時已經有點醉意，所以當晚還挺開心的。直到我們發現身旁的人在做些我們好像不該發現的事情...
Anyway... you can tell that everyone's enjoying themselves a lot. And there's no reason, really, to stop us from having our own fun.
不過呢，圖片中還是可以看到大家都很enjoy。也沒有任何事情可以阻止我們自己enjoy這個夜晚啊。
Please note that pubs in the UK are busy throughout the entire week (weekend are even busier). It's unlike Taipei pubs and clubs, where you might find the place a bit empty during work days. 
這裡就要請大家注意一下啦！英國的pub可是一個禮拜七天都高朋滿座的！當然週末會更擁擠，不過沒人在管你週末不週末的喔！
Dance if you want to. Drink if you want to. But be responsible. 
想跳舞就跳舞。想喝就喝。不過記得要理性啊～
And, there's the occassional open mic. 
另外還有open mic文化。這是大家都可以參加的！（只要你有種吧）只要事先登記，就有機會輪到你。

And after one too many beer... I turned to vodka lemonade... 
結果啤酒喝太多... 就突然改喝伏特加＋雪碧... 
To end the night, we went to the place where we'd always end the night - Bumper. Because it was one of the few places that opened till 4am... and because it was closest to the big group of people who lived in the halls... and because we would always be too drunk to care if we really like the place or not... it was always the best place to end the night. 
為劃下完美的句點，我們來到以前最常作為終點站的地方：Bumper。這就有幾個原因了。第一：這是少數會開到四點的店。第二：當時許多人住宿，所以這也是離宿舍最近的一間。第三：到了這個時候我們通常都已經不在乎這地方到底有沒有格調了！所以，才會是我們常常最後到的地方～
 
But after a crazy night out, a pizza makes the night even much more delightful! Well, that is... until the next day's hangover.... 
當然，經過一整晚的狂歡... 來點油膩膩熱騰騰的pizza更是美好！！直到隔天的宿醉..... 

One of the reasons why my experience in Liverpool had been so unforgettably wonderful, was because of the people. So this time round, I couldn't come here without visiting whoever was still there, or whoever happened to be there. Unfortunately, because it was summer, many were away on vacation as well. But I took the effort and met up with the few that were around, and we managed to some fun on our own. 
當年在利物浦的時候，會覺得很開心，很難忘，當然有一大部分是因為當時交到的朋友。所以既然有榮幸能夠再來一次，當然要號召當時還在或是剛好有在利物浦的朋友們出來見見面，敘敘舊！可惜的是因為剛好當時是暑假，我都出國過暑假了，當然也有人要出國（英國以外）過暑假。雖然見到的小貓沒幾隻，但是有見到的我們，還是很開心地度過了一個美好的夜晚。
This is a campus pub, located, in fact, right in the centre of the entire campus (well, more or less). That's why we frequently meet here on Friday afternoons, before discussing what would happen later on during the evening. 
這是一間校園pub。他的位子其實就這麼剛好得差不多在整個校園的中央。所以我們之前幾乎每個禮拜五下午都會相約在這裡會合。先小酌幾杯，再慢慢商量接下來一整個夜晚的計畫。
Or, we'd come here to watch football, although it's difficult to catch the screen if you come too late... 
或者是來這邊看球賽。不過不太推薦來這裡看（因為電視角度的關係）
After catching up with old friends, I decided to meet up with some new friends - the Taiwanese students that were studying there at the time. I thought: what would be a better chance to introduce to them my favourite Liverpool restaurant of all time? - The Egg!
與老朋友敘舊完之後，我想說可以來見見新朋友。因此約了學弟妹們來跟我還有我的朋友一起共進晚餐。因為我想說，趁這個機會把我最愛的利物浦餐廳介紹給學弟妹們～

This is the quiche that I had been craving... Vegetarian, yes. The kind of vegetarian cuisine that even meat-lovers would say yes to. 
這個就是我一直朝思暮想的鹹派（之前介紹過叫做"去死" - 台語）！素的！這裡的素，可是連葷食的人都會豎起大拇指稱讚的喔！

St. Luke's Church, otherwise known to the locals as the 'bombed-out church', has already been introduced once here. (Please refer to the link at the end of this article for further reading) It's difficult to miss this church during your travel in Liverpool. Other than the Anglican Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral, I think this is yet another unique landmark of the city. 
St. Luke's 教堂之前就有介紹過了。（詳見延伸閱讀）在利物浦我們都稱他為「炸爛的教堂」。這座教堂的位置讓你很難不去注意到他。除了一座英國國教教堂及一座天主教教堂之外，這又是另一個利物浦的獨特地標了！
From the outside, it looks as though it's a properly functioning church. The truth is, there is no interior. It has been made into a space for arts and culture, which is probably the best way to help preserve a building. 
從外觀看來，似乎是個很正常的教堂。但事實上他是沒有內部的。這個地方被變作為一個文藝交流的空間。我想這是唯一能夠保存歷史建築的最佳辦法了吧！
You can see the hollow 'interior'.

Pity it was bombed, but I can't help but think how they could've bombed the church without destroying the exterior! 
雖然被炸了有點可惜，但還是忍不住會想：要這樣不損壞外觀的炸，還挺難的吧！？
You'll always be able to find these tokens that commemorate those who lost their lives in WWII around the vicinity. 
在教堂周圍或鄰近處隨時可見這些為紀念二次世界大戰中喪失性命的人們。
Revisiting a place that you use to often walk pass is always a very emotional experience. 
重返曾經常常經過的事物總是會喚起許多不同的感覺與思念。
Let my memories be like this 'bombed-out' church - preserved despite the fact that there is no longer content. Because the existence of its remains, is enough to last forever. 
願我對利物浦的回憶就像這座教堂一樣：即使已經沒有"內容"，但其餘的只要它存在，就足以直到永遠。

While planning my 2010 trip to the UK, I realised that I had left the UK the first time round with so many regrets. I guess, in some ways, regrets can become a sort of incentive for one to return. One of the regrets I had was even having lived for a year next to this space shuttle cathedral, I had never managed to visit the inside. So this time, I made sure I did.

A perfect match. 完美的結合
The cathedral's construction was completed in 1967. Seeing from its unusual design, it's not hard to imagine that there had been some architectural problems with the building upon its completion. The cathedral, as you can see from an earlier photo, stands right across from the Anglican Cathedral. These two cathedrals are, quite aptly, connected by Hope Street. 
這座教堂於1967年完成建置。從他獨特的外觀看來，不難想像剛建造完成後的確出現了許多問題。這座教堂的正對面就是英國國教教堂（之前介紹過）。連結這兩座教堂的街道，又這麼剛好的叫做Hope（希望）。
Although it was quite an experience to walk into the cathedral, I had to admit that I felt relieved once I walked out of it... Back to Earth again! 
雖然看到教堂內部的確是個不錯的經驗，但我又必須承認走出教堂時，還是覺得鬆了一口氣！終於又回到地球了！

This visit remained an exciting experience, except now, looking back... I cannot help but utter half a dozen sighs at each and every one of these pictures. Anyone fancy venturing a guess on why this is so??
2010去看的時候還是覺得超開心地啊！有人知道為什麼現在整理、寫文卻讓我覺得很哀怨嗎？有人要猜猜看嗎？
Well, first, there was the fact that I had to decide whether I wanted to spend 30+ quid on a jersey with the new sponsor... 
首先我得先決定要不要敗一件印有新贊助商的球衣...

No matter how much I had wanted them... 無論我當時有多麼想要買它們... 
Because... because... because of this traitor!!! 因為... 因為...因為這個叛徒！！！
HE LEFT LFC!!! AFTER I had bought the new jersey!! 
在我敗了新球衣之後，他竟然離開了LFC！！！
And now... this has all become obsolete!

I left Liverpool as a poor international student, with very little money at my disposal (probably because I used most of it on booze). Anyhow, this time I returned as a tourist who had enough budget to try out new things. One of the regrets I had, I guess, was not having explored some of the restaurants on Bold Street. This Uncle Sam was one of them. I guess I chose this one, to reminisce two dear friends of mine whose names were, coincidentally, both Sam. 
當年在利物浦過著一整年的窮學生生活。如果真要說遺憾，大概就是當年沒能有足夠的經費到處品嘗Bold Street上的美味吧！（經費不足也可能是因為都花在酒上面了*溜*）所以這次回去，雖然也不算富裕，但至少是個經費足夠的旅客。這次就可以嚐嚐不同的東西囉。我想我會選擇這間Uncle Sam，也剛好是因為當年伴我留學的兩位好友剛好都叫Sam。想說來這裡可以想想他們～
It must have been around three, or some time in the afternoon. There weren't many people around. 
當時好像是下午。所以沒有很多人（應該說人超少）
I ordered fish, of course! This is the way I like it - with lots of fresh veggies. 
我點了炸魚。我就喜歡這種有很多蔬菜搭配的炸魚～
 
It was a quiet meal, but a very satisfying one. I should've tried out this place sooner! 
雖然是個很平淡的一餐，但是令我非常滿足。早知道就早點來囉！

前一陣子的暴動，震驚了許多英國控（其實是我自己啦）。怎麼也沒有料到英國也會有這一天。但是更令人震驚的是暴動竟然會蔓延到利物浦去！恰好，當時我正準備要開始起筆寫『再訪利物浦』的系列，遇到了暴動事件，我卻不知該如何下筆了！所以就暫緩到現在才恢復發文。不知道現在復原的情況如何了～但先將這複雜的心情放一邊，來瞧瞧2010年天仙再訪利物浦時再度踏上母校校園的情境吧！
The riot that happened a while ago shocked a lot of people (obviously including me). It was shocking because it was quite unexpected. It was even more shocking that the riots spread to elsewhere, and of all places - Liverpool! At the time, I was just about to start writing the next series of my 2010 travel log - on Liverpool. The riots confused me. I didn't know how to start writing. That's why I'm only starting to post my Liverpool journals now. I wonder how things are now. But let's put that feeling aside, and take a look at how tranquil the place can be. How serene and friendly the place was during my visit in 2010.

2009九月二十日離開利物浦的那天，我壓根沒想到一整年都還沒過，我就可以再度踏上這塊土地。那種感覺很奇妙。有種很熟悉，卻又很陌生的感覺。這是我生活過一整年的地方。這是我夢想了十年後終於達到的地方。但是這次再訪校園讓我發現，我在利物浦生活的那一年，讓這一年變得完美無缺得除了課程本身，除了校園，當然還有最重要的—朋友！即使是當地的朋友也都一個一個離開，到別處發展。這裡無論記憶裡或是當下還是多麼的美好，少了那群朋友，就像是沒有酒的酒杯一樣...（啊？）
When I left Liverpool on 20th September, 2009, I didn't realise I could return again within a year. It was quite an amazing feeling - a mixture of familiarity and estrangedness. This was the place that I had lived for an entire year. It was also the place I had dreamed of coming for ten years. But upon my return this time, I realised that the element that made that year impeccably perfect, other than the campus and the course itself, was my friends. Even my English friend had moved onto other things, to other places. No matter how wonderful my memory of the place is, and no matter how beautiful the place remained, without my friends, Liverpool is just not the same Liverpool.
