其實剛來到台北工作不久,我就發現在南崗路上有個不起眼的鐵皮屋,上面標榜著「正宗泰國菜」。我光是瞧那店面,就覺得這種小規模餐廳,一定是泰國人開的,就連主要客群一定是泰國人!不過因為一直抱持著又期待又害怕受傷害的心理,所以總是沒有鼓起勇氣去嘗試。有一天,老公提議說:就是今天了吧!去嘗嘗那間正宗泰國菜!於是就來了!

I found a Thai place on Nangang Road shortly after I started my life in Taipei. It was in a shack at the time, and written on the sign were the words: 正宗泰國菜 (Authentic Thai foood). Seeing from its small scale, I knew that it must be run by Thais, and they probably served Thai people in the neighbourhood. But I never gathered enough courage to give it a try, until my other half and I decided to finally give it a go!

記得有一段時間發現鐵皮屋不見了!後來發現原來不是從此無緣,而是他們換了地方!這全新的地點不是違建了。

I remember seeing the original shack being demolished. I was a little worried then, but soon realised that they had moved into a proper building.

菜單很簡單。不過如果你願意接受挑戰,也可以詢問老闆娘是否可以做出你懷念的泰國菜色。

The menu was quite simple. If you feel like challenging them, you can also order things that are not on the menu.

There were pictures of the King and Queen of Thailand hanging on the wall in the AC room.

As we found this song book, we were certain that the place was, indeed, frequented by Thai people.

打拋豬肉 Khrapao Moo (Pork) กะเพราหมู 

第一次來還是不要太冒險。點個打拋來吃吃。

雖然放了洋蔥,不過量不多。有提味的功效,沒有充量的嫌疑。所以光是這個賣像,還尚可接受。不過吃了一口,覺得還真是好吃耶!!吃到道地的口感,真的是感動到說不出話來了!

Since it was our first visit, after all, we didn't want to go out too far from our comfort zone, so we ordered a khrapao to test them out. 

Yes, there was onion in it, but only a small amount to add to the flavour. It looked pretty nice, and after a bite, I was about to burst into tears! It was really authentic!!

涼拌青木瓜絲 Papaya salad ส้มตำไทย

再吃吃看他們的青木瓜沙拉。天啊!味道實在是太道地了!

他的辣味簡直是從青木瓜絲的肉裡滲透出來!吃了一口讓我們不僅懷疑其他店裡賣的青木瓜沙拉根本就只有簡單的攪拌,而並非使用瓦缽和搗容器搗出來的!否則其他間的怎麼那個辣味就滲透不到青木瓜裏頭去呢?

And their papaya salad? Oh my! It was truly authentic!!

The spice penetrated into the papaya, and we realised then that this was probably the only place that does this dish properly with a mortar and pestle, instead of just mixing up the ingredients without pounding them while mixing them. We reckoned that it was the only way for the spicy taste to penetrate into the papaya!

泰式奶茶 Thai milk tea

還沒完還沒完!還有這一杯泰式奶茶。這天還好是有了這杯,否則我們真的要被那青木瓜沙拉KO了!

小小提醒:點這奶茶別去冰。因為他很甜。不能喝冰的,就學我等冰塊融化了!其實這時候的奶茶對我們來說才是剛剛好的味道!

Not quite done yet! There was also this amazing milk tea. Thanks to this, we survived the spicy papaya salad! 

A reminder: don't ask them to leave out the ice. The ice, when melted, dilutes the milk tea, making it perfect to drink! (Otherwise you might find it too sweet)

更棒的是,這裡的價錢沒有餐館的高貴,品質卻是比任何餐館都來的要道地!

The best thing of all was the price was extremely affordable! Very high cost performance!!

第二次造訪,我們當然點了些不一樣的東西。一來是我們自己也好奇,二來是蒐集多一點圖片,才更好跟大家分享。

During our second visit, we decided to try some different dishes. Firstly, because we were curious. Secondly, because I wanted to collect more pictures to post!

泰式酸辣鮮蝦湯(苳茵湯)Tom yam goong ต้มยำกุ้ง

這次來試試看他們的酸辣海鮮湯。其實這道只要選對了苳茵湯膏(有些超市有賣)並不難做。所以不意外的好吃是當然的。

The tom yam goong was quite nice. But this soup is not difficult to make, so it was hardly a surprise.

粄條 Kuay teaw (thick) ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเส้นใหญ่

上次吃了細的粿條,這次來吃吃粄條。

Last time we tried the thin noodles, and this time, I decided to try the thick noodles.

湯頭一樣是很泰國,不過粄條的部分有點讓我失望。可能是取得不易,所以用的板條還真的是"美濃粄條"的那種... 可惜了。以後應該都只會點細的囉!

The soup was very Thai, of course, but the noodles themselves was a little disappointing. I think they were trying to save the trouble (or money), so they used Taiwan noodles instead, which was quite different from what I was expecting...

豬肉炒飯 Pork fried rice ข้าวผัดหมู

他們的炒飯我們吃過豬肉跟牛肉的。個人覺得他們豬肉處理得比較好。之後我也有請老公外帶回家食用過,結果一打開那個便當盒,我整個嚇到!因為整的便當盒滿到快裝不下了!!但價錢卻跟一般熱炒店的炒飯差不多。我開玩笑跟老公說:泰國人真的傻傻地啊!炒飯裝的那麼滿,他們還賺什麼呢?

We had tried both pork and beef, and I thought that their pork fried rice was a little better. Once, I had my other half take home a box of fried rice, and when we opened up the box, we were surprised!! The box was so full that the rice was about to fall out! I told my other half that Thai people are quite simple minded... giving us so much fried rice at the same price... how exactly do they make a profit???

醬油炒粄條 Pad see ew (Noodles fried in soy sauce) ก๋วยเตี๋ยวผัดซีอิ๊

注意喔!這道跟大家所知道的"泰式炒河粉"(pad thai)不一樣!這款炒河粉是用醬油拿來炒的。基本上,味道是不錯(因為有附檸檬,淋上檸檬什麼都好吃!!)只是前面說過,這裡的板條都是用台灣的,口感實在有點突兀。

Note that this is quite different from pad thai. This is actually fried in soy sauce (see ew). The taste was great, but as I said earlier, they used Taiwan noodles instead, which was still a little disappointing.

涼拌冬粉 Yam woon sen ยำวุ้นเส้น

最後這道要介紹的是天仙經過詢問之後才成功點成的菜(菜單上沒有)。就如同我之前分享食譜時所說的一樣,味道當然是無話可說,但這個冬粉實在是少啊!不過因為這道菜備料很繁瑣,偶爾來吃吃別人做的,當然也是很享受啦!

Finally, this was a dish that I used to try my luck. I asked randomly if they could make me this dish, and luckily, they had all the ingredients needed. I know I can make this dish, but because the process takes so many steps, it's so much easier to just enjoy what others' make for you!

第一次用餐完畢時,老闆娘問辣度是否夠。我跟她說:有點辣!結果她好訝異。因為在她觀察之下已經被她發現我待過泰國,所以以為我很能吃辣。我不好意思跟她說台灣人懷孕的時候忌諱吃太辣啦~ 

The owner of the shop realised that I had stayed in Thailand before, so when she asked me if I found the food spicy enough, she was extremely surprise when my answer was "a little too spicy". I didn't bother explaining to her that actually, Taiwanese people didn't eat very spicy foods during pregnancy...
