  • 【坎特伯里】再訪大教堂 Revisiting Canterbury Cathedral

其實早在2010年12月貼出【坎特伯里】Canterbury Cathedral一文時,我早就在當年的七月造訪過第二次了!這兩次的感觸非常不一樣。第一次因為是一個人單獨進去參觀,所以花了很多時間看透每一個細節。第二次,除了再次享受這華麗教堂的內外部,其實我最主要的目的是用新的相機把這座美麗的教堂,再做一次紀錄。
When I posted the first article on Canterbury Cathedral in December, 2010, I had already been there a second time. These two visits were very different, though. I was on my own the fist time, so I took all the time I needed to steep myself in the cathedral atmosphere. The second time round, other than enjoying everything for one more time, my most important agenda was to make a second recording of this magnificent building.

經過了一兩周的台灣食記轟炸,我想大家看食物應該看的也累了!所以我們再來把焦點轉移到英國吧!由於我是英國台灣這樣穿插的再貼文,在這裡我想我必須再次提醒讀者們,其實這次是我第二次造訪坎特伯里。第一次來的時候,花了許多時間參訪博物館以及大教堂。整個時間被占去因此有許多其他的事物都來不及嘗試。既然有機會能夠再來第二次,我就想說要嘗試一些第一次來的時候無緣參與到的事物囉!這個河上導覽就是其中之一。
After a few weeks of Taiwan food articles, I'm sure you're getting a bit sick and tired of looking at food, food, and not thing but food articles. So here we are again, back in the UK. Since I'm sort of overlapping Taiwan and UK articles, I feel obliged to remind you again that this was my second time to Canterbury. The first time round, I took a lot of time in museums and the cathedral itself. Because time was a valuable asset, I had to be selective of what I did. Since I was lucky enough to come back for a second visit, I decided to try things that I did not try the first time round. This river tour, was one of them. 
在坎特伯里的High Street上就會看到有人在拉客人。放心!他們是做正當行業的,而且如果你只是想要了解,也不用害怕先詢問詳情以及價錢。這裡不像亞州地區的拉客方式這麼強勢。如果你決定要搭乘,其實搭乘地點就在這個餐廳的後方。不過你可別大剌剌的從這個門走進去啊!這大門是給用餐的人進去的!
On the High Street of Canterbury, you'll see people shouting out to tourist luring them to do the boat tour. If you want to know a bit more before you decide, don't feel intimidated, approach them and enquire all you want. It's not like in some Asian countries where they would be really aggressive when you approach them, then get really offended when you decide to leave. If you decide to do the boat tour, the place to board is actually the back of this restaurant. However, don't just walk into the front entrance! That entrance is reserved for people who are dining at the restaurant!

You will be shown a way through an alley, where you can then get to the back garden of the restaurant.

自古至今,中華文化裡就少不了「茶」。相信身在台灣,對很多人來說「茶」是日常生活中不可缺少的要素。就連天仙熱愛的英國文化也是跟茶少不了關係。但是天仙到底對茶瞭解多少?其實跟大部分的人一樣,我瞭解的並不多。
前一陣子在部落格中看到一則留言。那是一則活動的邀約。邀約者挑了我數年前為「小熊維尼的道」這本書寫的心得文章留言。這個活動是要我讀一本與茶相關的書籍。我思考了很久,猶豫該不該參加。畢竟自己的中文能力有限。畢竟今年讀過得中文書,除了友情捧場的兩本以外就沒了!。但接受邀約一方面也是為了自我挑戰一番。

It's quite hard to believe that in the midst of Taipei City, there would be such a cost efficient restaurant. These fry-up restaurants are the perfect place for a quick meal and a few beers. I guess, as opposed to pubs, this is as close as we can get to the English pub culture. 
實在很難想像,台北市中心裡會有這麼一間經濟實惠的快炒店。上面英文中解釋到,我其實發現台灣的快炒店是最接近英國pub文化的部分了!可以吃飯可以小酌,只是有時醉漢會讓這些地方吵了點。
Drink responsibly. 理性飲酒~
Fried clams with basil. Nothing special, but not disappointing, either.
炒海瓜子,沒啥特別的。但也不至於令人失望~
Bitter gourd and salty eggs. They use the greed bitter gourd in place of the white ones. A change of taste.
苦瓜鹹蛋,他們用的是深綠色的苦瓜而不是白色的~ 換個口味~
Roe salad - very strange tasting...
魚卵沙拉,味道有點古怪... 
Fried pork 這是炒山豬肉嗎?
Swellfish skin... No, I didn't try this. 
河豚皮... 我跳過了... 
Clams and gourd. 絲瓜蛤蠣
Hakka fry up. 客家小炒
Pineapple shrimp balls. 鳳梨蝦球
Three cups chicken. 三杯雞
Hot and spicy mixed soup with 'intestines'.  五更腸旺
Garlic fried fish. This was the dish that surprised us all (well, me most of all). There was the taste of lemon! And oh, how I love fried fish with lemon! 
蒜香魚片 - 這道是最令人驚豔的!(至少就我而言啦)因為他魚片有檸檬味耶!我最愛炸魚加上檸檬味了!
Garlic fried squid? We decided to order another garlic dish on the menu because of our satisfaction with the fish dish. Although I say it's squid, I can't really remember if it was indeeed, squid. 
蒜香花枝 - 因為魚片太好吃了,就把菜單上另外一道蒜香的菜也叫來吃。雖然我說他是蒜香花枝,可是其實我有點忘了它到底是啥。
Veggie - no Taiwan fry-up is complete without a plate of these!
空心菜 - 好像沒一盤青菜這桌熱炒就不能稱作完美捏~
Fried oysters? This and the following two dishes are simply to kill the rest of the time consuming up our booze.
炸鮮蚵?這盤以及接下來的兩盤根本就是我們為了下酒點的下酒三部曲~
Deep fried river shrimps. 酥炸溪蝦
Deep fried shishamo fish. 酥炸喜相逢(柳葉魚)
Absolutely stuffed after the meal and the booze! 
吃完喝完整個好撐啊!

Dian Shui Lou offers Shanghai and Zhejian cuisine. We owe this meal to a visit of a former teaher of ours. My friend who recommended the place was pretty familiar with the menu, so we took no time to fuss over what we wanted. He took care of it all. The only request I had, was that I wanted "drunken chicken". This is a dish where the chicken is soaked in Chinese wine, and eaten cold after it's been prepared. My friend told me that they had another chicken dish that was also quite unique, and asked me if I might consider that. I replied, that although drunken chicken is more ubiquitous, decent drunken chicken is difficult to come across. When I saw the restaurant, and my friend's continuous approval of the restaurant, I knew that they would definitely have decent drunken chicken. 
點水樓是融合上海以及浙江佳餚的餐廳。其實要不是託以前的老師來訪的福,天仙才不會有機會吃到這一餐呢!帶我們來的大哥呢,很了解這裡的菜色,所以點菜我們都不用煩惱。我唯一的要求就是要有醉雞。大哥說他們還有另外一種雞也蠻有特色的,問我不考慮試試看另外一種嗎?因為醉雞哪裡都有。我回他說:我堅持要醉雞。原因是醉雞很容易找沒錯,但好吃的醉雞真的很難找!我一進門看到店內裝潢以及大哥他一在地強調說這裡真的很不錯,我就相信他的醉雞一定很棒!

And I was indeed, correct. It was the best I have had in a very long time! 
果然我沒看走眼。真的是這一陣子以來吃過最好吃的醉雞了!
'Sweet heart' soft-boiled egg. 糖心蛋
Although it was just a small mouthful, it was indeed 'sweet'. 
雖然只是這麼一小口,可是果然很糖心~~

The dish that I skipeed, of course, because there was pork in the filling.
因為有豬肉,所以就跳過這道了~
Garlic fried squid 蒜香軟絲 (不知道有沒有記錯菜名)

A light vegetarian option. 清爽的素食菜餃
Steamed egg with crab roe. 蟹粉燉水蛋
I love steamed eggs. But this was definitely something special. The crab, didn't take away my enjoyment of the texture of the steamed egg. Quite on the contrary, the taste was just right. A taste of the sea goes quite well with the what would otherwise be rather bland steamed egg. 
我很愛吃蒸蛋。不過這倒是挺特別的。蟹粉沒有把整個口感蓋過去。相反的,他讓蒸蛋更好吃了!加上這點海味,讓原本應該是比較清淡無味的蒸蛋更有趣了!

Smoked cod 煙燻鹽鱈
It looks like it's supposed to be salmon, but it's actually cod. This was absolutely delightful! The taste of the lightly smoked cod, with a tint of salt and its tender texture makes you want to have one bite after another! 
外表看起來像鮭魚,可是其實他是鱈魚來著!這道菜真的很不錯!煙燻的味道,加上鹽巴的調味,以及他鮮嫩多汁的肉,讓你忍不住想要一口接著一口的一直吃!

Red bean rice cake 赤豆鬆糕
Soft hearted dessert 心太軟
And last, but certainly not least....

Hi Sushi is one of my favourite sushi joints in Taiwan. It is a lot more pricey than Sushi Express, but the quality of the food is, of course, incomparably better, too. We got together a group of six this time, to try out their new set meals. 
海壽司是天仙最喜歡的連鎖壽司店了!雖然比爭鮮貴很多,但品質上當然也比爭鮮好很多!畢竟爭鮮走的是平價路線嘛!這次我們聚集了六個人,來嚐嚐他們新推出的套餐系列!
Sashimi platter. 綜合生魚片
Very fresh, and had enough for everyone to taste. Although I would have personally prefered an entire platter of salmon. But that's just me. 
非常新鮮,而且分量也足夠。不過其實我還是希望整盤都是鮭魚。本人是鮭魚控~
Appetizer - Happy Overture 幸福前奏 - 開胃組合
There was not enough smoke salmon to go around, but somehow I still managed to get a second helping!? Who took my third helping?
燻鮭魚有點少,不過我還是吃了兩份!?到底是誰把我的第三份吃掉的!?
Seafood and pork Fish Pot. 海陸鮮魚鍋
For the pot. 海陸鍋用的... 
This was the pot that filled us all up. It was nothing special, if you ask me. But I think they put this in the set to fill us up. 
這就是讓我們吃到很撐得鍋鍋~ 雖然沒啥特別的,不就是鍋嗎!我覺得套餐會有這個是讓我們吃飽用的~
Deep fried oysters and seafood tempura 酥炸生蠔海鮮盛合
I was actually a bit disappointed at this. The oysters didn't taste like oysters at all. But the others seemed to have enjoyed this very much. So I think I'll shut up.
其實我對這盤有點失望。因為根本吃不出生蠔本身的味道。但其他人似乎吃得很開心,那我就還是閉嘴吧!

I don't eat beef. 
我不吃牛肉。
Sushi platter. 盛合壽司
Sushi! What's more to say! If you had more room in your tummy, they're all yours! 
就是壽司啊!反正如果你肚肚還有空位,就把他全部吞下去吧!

Hot red bean sweet soup 白玉紅豆湯
The thing that made us all full was, not surprisingly, the fish pot. It was very filling. The rest of the meal was extremely enjoyable. Although the only thing that could've been improved was the space on the table. 
把大家KO的,不意外的,就是那個海陸鮮魚鍋啦!實在是很飽!其他的也都很好吃!不過如果真的要雞蛋裡挑骨頭,那我只好說...桌子的空位太小啦~~~

這間可愛的小餐廳,是我們利物浦大學茹素的同學找的。這間賣的素食不是一般葷食者容易反感的油膩無味的素食,而是美味健康輕食的素食。這次的小聚,其實就是三兩好友相聚。天仙也一再強調,每次與朋友的聚會,在哪裡、吃什麼都不是重點。因為通常有歡樂,平淡無味的食物也可以變得很美味。服務不佳的態度,也只會變成我們的閒話家常。更何況是美味的食物,優良的服務品質呢?
This lovely restaurant was the recommendation of a vegetarian friend of ours. The vegetarian food here is unlike what most people think of vegetarian cuisine. While many vegetarian restaurants are bland and greasy, this one sells delicious healthy light meals. This was an unofficial small gathering of a group of Liverpool alumni. I often say that when I meet up with friends, the quality of food and services in restaurants is the least of my concern.

This is the new Chinese restaurant on Academia Sinica campus. Reviews of the old restaurant can be seen here and here. The contract they signed ended around the end of September. Many of us were very distraught by this, as we thought they offered very decent food. Fortunately, they moved to somewhere else close by. But since this new place started, we thought we might as well try it out. Even though I had been quite disappointed with the lunch boxes they sold, the restaurant might be another story. Well... 
這是中研院新的中餐廳。約今年九月底的時候原本的餐廳合約到期。聽到此消息很多同事與我都非常的失落。因為原本的餐廳還不錯!還好他們只是搬到附近的其他地方去營業。但既然新的餐廳開了,沒有理由不去試試看。因此同事們相約到此聚餐。雖然對他們出的便當感到極度失望,但心裡抱持著:餐廳可能不一樣的心態去嘗試... 結果... 
Cold dish chicken. 金蔥油雞
We ordered a set meal for 6-8 people. When this first dish arrived, we were astounded by how little the portion was! 
我們點了六到八人的套餐。結果當這第一道菜上桌時我整個傻眼!怎麼才這麼一點!?
Steamed cod. 清蒸鱈魚
Three petty slices of cod... How ridiculous! My colleague scooped a bit for me. When I was ready for a second helping, there was almost none left! 
三片這麼小片的鱈魚就叫做清蒸鱈魚。我同事幫我夾了點,但當我想要再夾一點的時候,已經快沒了!
Pork ribs. 排骨
Apparently this was a bit too fatty. No one wanted to take the last portion... 
聽說是因為太肥了。剩最後一塊的時候,根本沒人想要夾他... 
Shrimps. 蝦子
Personally, this was the only dish that was satisfactory. It was very tasty, and there had been plenty to go around. 
我個人覺得這是這餐唯一還過得去的一到菜。味道很不錯,而且分量也夠!
Crab and tofu. 蟹粉豆腐
Nothing special. 沒啥特別的... 
Veggies. 蔬菜... 
Very dull-looking dish... At least add some clams to it, mate! 
很單調的一到菜。何不加點蛤蠣呢!?
Soup. 湯
There was pork in this, so I passed on this.
這也有豬肉,我就沒碰了... 
Dessert. 甜點
It looked okay, but the fact was that even if it actually tasted okay, we'd all been feeling way too disappointed by the whole meal to enjoy it. 
看起來還算可以啦!不過因為前面已經太過失望了,所以即使他是好吃的,我們也沒啥心情享受了。
Fruit. 飯後水果... 
You can tell that some of these cherry tomatoes were going bad already! 
不知道你們有沒有看的出來,有些番茄早就已經爛掉了捏!
The worst thing of this whole meal, was the fact that no one was full. I myself became hungry again by three in the afternoon, just a couple of hours after the meal! 
最糟糕的是吃完這餐沒有人覺得"飽"。我自己可是到了下午三點(約兩小時後)就肚子又餓了!
 
I think the most normal thing was the beer... 
這餐最正常的應該就屬麥茶了吧!

This place was first recommended to me by a colleague of mine, for their huge dumplings. But you see, there is pork in dumplings, so I had to pass on them. I'm sure they're great! The reason why I felt obliged to come back so that I could write an article on it, however, was because of their noodles. I had never, ever had noodles spicy enough that I had to give up the last few bites. Their noodles really took me down. 
北大荒是我同事介紹的地方。他推薦的主要原因是他們的大顆水餃。不過水餃有豬肉啊。我就得pass。我相信不錯啦!但我會想回來為了寫食記多吃幾次,原因倒不是因為水餃(廢話)而是因為我從來沒吃過一碗辣到我吃不完的麵!他的辣是真的把我給KO了!

Since this was the one I had, let me focus on this dish. As in my past experience, these so-called 'spicy noodles' never used to be spicy enough for me. What I did the first time round, was on top of the spiciness it already had, I added some more chilly sauce onto it. As much as I wanted to finish the entire bowl, I couldn't. I gave in, because the last portion was entirely soaked in the chilly sauce that came with it AND the chilly sauce that I had so foolishly added... 
既然這是本篇重點,就先把焦點放在椒麻麵上吧!因為一直以來,之前遇到號稱辣的麵,對我來說根本都不辣。所以我很白目地在他本來就很辣的麵上面,又加了辣椒醬!結果就是,即使我很想把他吃完,我到最後還是放棄了!因為吃到越底下就越辣。因為下面的麵根本就是整個浸泡在雙倍的辣椒醬裡~~

年初的時候僥倖再次入圍了中時部落格舉辦的第六屆全球華文部落格大獎的決選。這次痞客邦除了送一些實體的小紀念品之外,更有趣的就是這個與POPO數位書城聯合策畫的數位書出版活動。除了電子書之外,部落客自己還可以獲得一本實體的紙本版。天仙原本猶豫(我怎麼做什麼都很猶豫啊,金害!)到底要不要棄權。因為要繳交稿子的時候正好又是天仙最忙的時候。但後來想想:唉!我這輩子萬一沒機會出書,藉此機會至少也可以算是了了個出書夢吧!結果真的!時間就跟事業線一樣!一擠就有了!由於我不知道包給人家設計會變成什麼樣子,我的內文又有中英文參雜,所以只好自己動手排版。但當我開始在排版時我就後悔了(好累啊!)好不容易完成了,交稿了,過了好一陣子終於把紙本版的寄到我手裡了!不過這個紙本版的只有電子版的前50頁,看起來像是一本沒寫完的書~~(但合約裡面就有講清楚了,我也沒啥辦法~)
總之,本周接獲消息,電子書終於要上架了!其實大家點進去看就知道,雖然要花錢,可是也才那一點。如果有人願意看,我高興都來不及呢!但最主要的用意,當然還是(金歹勢)我自己:為我自己留下這個完整的回憶錄。不過話說回來,如果沒有大家的支持,這個夢想哪會實現呢?所以有參與到的,或來不及參與到的朋友們,當然都歡迎與天仙一同回味這段美好的回憶。
