il Giardino Romantico

This is the world famous Chiufen. It is the setting of the famous film 'City of Sadness', one, I had to admit, I had only seen once at a time when I had not yet learned how to appreciate it. Travellers from Taiwan and abroad love to come here. Although many complain that the place has become way too commercialised, to me, some things will never change - the innate historical and cultural atmosphere hidden within.

這就是世界知名的觀光景點—九份。也是電影『悲情城市』的拍攝地點。不過我必須坦承，這部電影我只看了一次，而且是在我年少無知（現在還是很無知）的時候看的所以還不懂得欣賞（現在就會懂嗎？）。台灣以及各國觀光客都會來這裡玩。許多人抱怨這裡已經太商業化。但我的見解不同。有些東西是永遠都無法改變的，那就是這些地點隱藏的歷史以及文化背景。

After having toured around two different Japanese style houses, we were ready to experience what it was like being miners in this area. I was quite impressed with what they had done with the place.  The place was well organized, and clearly shows that a lot of effort had been put into making the place a world-class tourist attraction. 

參觀了兩間日式房子之後，我們準備來體驗一下當礦工的感覺。這裡的設計讓我感到非常的佩服。她們很明顯的用盡心思把這裡打造成一個國際級的觀光景點。

I think I have been to Jinguashi once before. It was way back during the ignorant days. So my memory of it was very vague. There were three of us out here on this day. We were escorting a very dear friend of mine that I had made in Liverpool - a Singaporean with whom I worked with as student ambassadors. My other friend was also a fellow Liverpodlian student, so the three of us got along really well. 

記得我來過金瓜石一次。不過年代已久，記憶已經很模糊。這天我們有三人來到此地。我們是陪伴一位我在利物浦認識的新加坡籍友人。擔任學生大使的時候曾經共事過。另外一位也是在利物浦認識的台灣同學。所以我們三人很有話聊。

I think many Taiwanese will be familiar with this restaurant. Some of you are probably even frequent patrons. I, however, don't come here often. The reason is because I'm not quite sure how to categorize this type of cuisine. 

我想這間大家應該都不陌生。或許讀者們有些甚至比我還要常光顧。我來過的次數大概不超過五根手指頭（頂多三次）。不是食物不好吃，是我實在不知道該怎麼去定義這樣的料理。

同樣的教堂以黑白方式呈現。天空仍然是灰色的，但感覺卻大不同。

At a walking distance from the medieval style architecture Bristol Cathedral, the Gothic style St. Mary Redcliffe serves as a striking contrast.

自Bristol Cathedral步行即可抵達的哥德式St. Mary Redcliffe成了前者中古設計教堂的明顯對比。

Located not too far from the City Museum, the cathedral impressively stands, seemingly undisturbed by modern civilization. Founded in 1140, it was first known as St. Augustine's Abbey. It has now the status of a grade 1 of listed buildings, and is a must-visit site for all tourists in Bristol.

離博物館不遠處，座立著這間大教堂。看似獨立，絲毫不受現代文明影響。成立於1140年，原本命名為St. Augustine's Abbey。現在是英國grade 1等級的古蹟。來到布里斯托的遊客，一定要來見識一下這間壯觀的大教堂。

The English are famous for give elaborate, but often excessive directions. I had not encountered such a scenario until this instance, when I was trying to find my way to the Suspension Bridge. Following a convoluted map that made me feel lost, I stopped twice to ask and make sure I was going the right direction.  In both cases, after they had kindly given me their elaborate directions, I had to ascertain one last time: so this is the right direction, correct?, before I have enough courage to proceed.

英國人問路給的指示是出了名的複雜。複雜到你後面聽完了前面都忘了。我一直沒機會遇到這樣的情形，直到這天我正再努力的尋找這一座吊橋。我只是想知道我走的方向是對的還是錯的，但好心又熱情的英國人給的指示對我的記憶力實在是一種極大的考驗。所以到了最後我還是得再問一次：所以我走這方向是對的吧！？

Actually, I didn't know what to expect of Bristol when I arrived. If it hadn't been for a must-visit friend, then I wouldn't have ever made it to Bristol. So, in a way, everything that I did in Bristol became a surprise! 

I must admit I have double standards. By the time I left Liverpool, I had thrown my strict vegetarian diet out the window, because my time in the UK was so limited, I thought 'I simply HAD TO try the authentic English breakfast!' So, I did.

我得承認我有雙重標準。離開利物浦之後，我把我原本嚴苛的素食主義拋到了腦後，決定利用謹慎的兩個禮拜好好享受道地的美食。我不能夠在離開英國前還沒嚐過真正的『英式早餐』！於是，我就點了非素食，正統的英式早餐。
